You've arrived at the site of
GIRLS SPRING HOCKEY
in Stamford, Connecticut.
From 1998 through 2007, the Stamford Spinnakers
hosted this program to bring more girls into the great sport of ice hockey.
Past participants, who learned the sport here,
have played for high schools
throughout Fairfield County and for colleges throughout the northeast.
The program was put "on ice" in 2008, due to
lack of enrollment.
We look forward to its resumption at some point in the years ahead.
Most of the benefits of ice hockey are
equally available to girls and boys.
But girls derive one additional benefit from their ice hockey experience.
They know for the rest of their lives that sex-based barriers,
like the one
that made ice hockey a boys sport for so long,
shatter when checked.
